STEAM-ENGINE IMAGES
A French farmer steaming his 1928 Breloux Traction Engine
Breloux & Co. built this Steam-Engine in their factory at Nevers, in the heart of Bourgogne in the Auverne in central France. They started in 1857 and specialized in threshing machines. The factory closed in 1955. The images here were taken at our local Fete de Batteuse this summer.
As well as the traction engine, there was a steam still that used to make Calvados
These images conjure up the essence of working steam of days gone by. To me, they are not only exciting reminders of a great day out but also thought provoking pictures that remind us of how things were done over a century ago. Children who have never seen these great working machines get a tantalising glimpse and hopefully go on to love traction engines as much as we do and also to help in their preservation.
maybe even buying one themselves
and of course let's not forget the famous Iron Maiden
